KLM Flight 810 Jakarta - Kuala Lumpur- Amsterdam- KLM 981 Amsterdam to London City Airport.
Business Class, Dreamliner.

The Grab from the hotel to Jakarta Airport, dropped us off at Terminal 2, our flight was from terminal 3 so we got the sky train.
Check in at the KLM desk was fast and efficient. Like many airlines KLM have 'unpacked' business class air fares and now have many classes of business class tickets. As we had a basic business class ticket it did not include the lounge. This was not a problem as Jakarta terminal 3 is new and nice with plenty of seats and a good view of the runway.
Boarding the aircraft was on time and fast.
Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur.
The flight is divided into two parts, this first leg, Jakarta to KL, Business class was not full, there was nothing on the seats - no water / amenity bag or blanket, just a pillow. We did get ONE glass of - very nice- Champagne in a small glass. (cut backs ?!). But oddly, very soon after take off we had a full meal service. It was quite a rush, I thought that having this service would mean that on the next leg we would not get a service so chose the Beef.
It was just OK, the apple crumble was awful, just inedible.  |

At KL we had to leave the aircraft, take all of our belongings with us, wait in the terminal for about an hour, then go back through security, board the aircraft and take our pervious seats, but we had a new crew.
This time we had water, amenity packs, pillow, blanket and new menus waiting for us.
Another small glass of the nice champagne was offered, and accepted by me!
Very soon after take off the meal service began, no drinks service prior to this. As I had eaten on the last leg, and the choices were very similar to what I had eaten, I had the starter- nice, the soup - awful, like water and the cheese - nice.
The wine and drinks were the same as before. Just an extra Cocktail offered.
Then I made the seat into a bed and despite not having a seat liner to smooth out the bumps slept.

Following the breakfast service it was a smooth landing into a very wet Amsterdam. Apart from the two services the crew were invisible. Again, both galleys unattended most of the night, I did make a few cups of tea for myself in the galley. It was not a long wait for the flight to London City, the flight was full, actually overbooked and a call for volunteers to get a flight the next day was put out. I don't think anyone volunteered as names were then called out and the chosen got sent away from the gate.
Flight 981 was pleasant, with breakfast in a box offered and alcohol if you wanted it. Tea was fine.

For us the next step was Docklands Railway & Tube to Euston, then the train to the North and home. Thoughts on KLM Business Class;
Since Covid so many airlines ( and other services) are offering a reduced /cut back product but charging more money for it. This was very obvious on KLM.
If all you really want is a seat to lie flat and sleep then KLM just about gives you that. It would be vastly improved if they had the mattress pads like other airlines as the seat when flat is very bumpy.
The food is just OK.
The service from the crew is efficient but minimal, Be prepared to help yourself in the empty galley if you want any extra water / drinks and such like.
I would fly KLM business class again if it was a route I wanted and the price was the best.
Having spent the hour and a half in KLMs Dreamliner Economy on this trip, I would never fly economy with this airline unless it was one of there very old aircraft.
In my opinion the Dreamliner does not equal a dream experience and I will try to avoid it in the future.
