Cycle Rajasthan with Intrepid; Trip report. Day Three, Jaipur

The Wall Street hotel, was a basic modern hotel. it was clean and comfortable, the beds here were firm and got progressively firmer throughout the tour. As with all the hotel we stayed in the hot water had to be run for about 10 to 15 mins before it got hot! this seems very wasteful in a water poor area.
Our guide advised us that as it was New Years eve there was going to be a party on the roof tonight- he wanted to know who would be going so that he could get the tickets. We had not been expecting anything like this and the response he got from the group was a little feeble. Most of us were thinking of the early start cycling the next morning.

Today we had an early start to the Observatory; this was optional but all of the group opted to do it.
The Jantar Mantar is now a World Heritage Site and it was an absolute highlight of my trip to Jaipur. I don't understand all the instruments, but they were all fascinating.

We didn't have time to visit the city Palace, but walked to the Hawa Mahal, Palace of the Winds for a photo opportunity.
We then went by our tour bus to the Fort- Palace of Amber. this is built on a hill, we walked up, but you can go by Elephant or Electric Car if you don't want to walk. it was magnificent, built from pale pink and yellow sandstone as well as marble this palace was worth visiting.

As we headed back to Jaipur, our guide wanted to pick up water and snacks - this did take a long time and we had intended walking into the Bazaar after lunch. However we did not have the time to do this following the stop for water.
The rest of the group went to the Raj Mandir Cinema and watched the latest Bollywood Blockbuster  'Simmba'
We walked through the streets and found a rooftop restaurant for a late lunch. The Peacock Rooftop restaurant. it was very relaxing.

When we got back to the Hotel, we were informed that the New Years Eve party the hotel had organised would now be providing all the food and drink, and the Hotel management really wanted us all to attend. This was an unexpected and pleasant surprise.
So that evening to celebrate the end of 2018 and start of 2019 we assembled on the rooftop of the Wall Street Hotel, where the Hotel staff had worked really hard and had set up, and decorated a bar and dance-floor ready for all the guests to enjoy the New Years Celebrations by dancing Bollywood style to Bollywood tunes.
We had a fabulous evening, joined by many of the families of the hotel staff- who taught us the latest Bollywood moves. This was a New Year I will never forget and was so glad we put aside our reservations about tomorrows hangover and went to the party!
