Singapore, Food Tour, Bike Tour, one night at the Marina Bay Sands.

 Singapore

24th January 2026

On my last visit to Singapore I really struggled to find any food I liked. This time, to avoid such a situation I had booked a 'Food and Heritage Tour' and at 9:00  out tour guide Gerry arrived as arranged at the hotel.

He picked us up from the hotel in an air-conditioned van, and after collecting the other three participants, we were dropped off at the UNESCO heritage Chinatown Complex Food Centre.

Gerry treated us to plate after plate of delicious food, including dishes from a Michelin Star stall—everything was fresh and amazing. I especially liked the Singapore Carrot Cake - not cake- but rice flour, steamed and cubed then served with a delicious sauce; black or white, and fired egg.

After eating, we took a stroll through Chinatown before hopping on the Metro to Dhoby Ghaut station and the Indian area for a hearty Indian feast. Next, we took the bus to the Malay part of town and enjoyed some ice cream.

It was a fantastic tour and a perfect introduction to Singapore.

Since we were full from the tour, so didn't need an evening meal -we got a taxi using the Grab App, to Mandai Zoo for the Night Safari. It was very busy, but we enjoyed walking around and seeing animals that are typically not active during the day.

We also took the safari bus to get a closer look at some of the nocturnal creatures.

Another early start for the 'Lion City Cycling Tour', the meeting point was Republic Avenue and when we arrived there was a line of bicycles in a bus shelter.

We cycled past the Merlion and Marina Bay, then to the same areas as the day before, but it was a very different experience on the bikes.

We stopped for a break at the Lau Pa Sat hawker market and decided we would return to it for our dinner.

The tour finished where it had started and we got the metro back to our hotel.
Holiday Inn Rooftop Pool

Having enjoyed the afternoon by the hotels rooftop pool we walked back to Lau Pa Sat where it had been transformed into 'Satay Street', we filled up on belly pork, duck with rice and a tasty sauce, satays +++, Tiger Beer and a G&T for me; my own Gin, tonic from the 24/7 along with a disposable cup of ice = perfect!

We then walked to Raffles Hotel to enjoy a Singapore Sling along with monkey nuts at the Long Bar.

Checked out of the Holiday Inn and into The Marina Bay Sands.

Our room was in Tower Three.  The décor in the room was very classic and very relaxing. I especially liked the drinks cupboard.

The roof top pool is the main draw for the hotel, it is spectacular, but has very limited shade.

In the evening we walked to the gardens on the bay for the light show.

Check out time was 11.00 and our check in on our 'Spice Route' cruise with Celebrity Cruise Line was 15.30. so this gave us time to walk around Marina Bay and do some shopping on Orchard Road.

This evening we would say farewell to Singapore. It had been a wonderful few days.
