Rugby World Cup 2023, France. 11th to 15th September 2023. Spain.

As we had visited Marseille and surrounds during the Rugby World Cup in 2007, and knowing that we would be back again soon for the quarter finals, we decided to explore a new place and decided upon Spain. We collected the car from its underground car park and set off in the direction of Barcelona.

But first we drove to Marseille airport, to the Alamo rental station and asked if we could swap the car.

Alamo were great and swapped it for us a - very comfortable - Citroën.
We drove on the A9 through Montpellier and Narbonne to the Spanish town of L'Escala.
At the beach in the main town I did a search for accommodation and found an apartment 'Apartments La Palmera'. as soon as I booked it I received a message that the apartment was ready. so we drove to the village of Sant Marti d'Empuries. This proved challenging as this village is located on top of a hill and is traffic free. After a while we located the apartment, also known as Villas Coll and the friendly owner who advised up where to park and showed us the apartment.
Both the hill top village and apartment were fantastic.
The apartment was clean, with a very good bed, fully equipped and had parking and a pool.

There were four restaurants in the small village, the restaurants were busy day and night with day visitors. We ate at all four of them and they were all fabulous, but my favourite was  La Terrassa d'Empuries.

It was a very short walk to the beaches, Roman ruins, shops and the town of l'Escala. It was a perfect spot for fours days of relaxation.
