Celebrity Eclipse, 14 Night Argentina Cruise, 9th March 2020. Ushuaia, Argentina.

After two restful sea days I woke up early, and when opening the cabin curtains was greeted by the most spectacular view. We had docked in Ushuaia harbour.

Ushuaia, is located on the Beagle Channel and claims to be ' The Southernmost City in the World'. The small port is a busy place with cruise ships, military vessels and research and tourist ships bound for the Antarctic. The town offers tourists many outdoor activities, such as hiking, mountain biking, deep sea fishing and in winter skiing.

Looking at the cruise ship tours, once again they seemed to involve long coach journeys, lunch and not very much activity; all at a high cost. We had decided that we wanted to visit the  Tierra del Fuego National Park and walk along the Beagle Channel following the Beagle Trail.

We found a Taxi at the Port entrance and negotiated a price for his services, he acted as our guide for the day, dropping us off and picking us up at places I asked for and advised us about some places we did not know. As we left the ship, we had been advised not to say we were English, but when our driver asked us where we came from I forgot and said England. He found it very funny and said he was an ex soldier and shook our hands.

The driver dropped us off on the trail and off we went.

Our first stop was at a small corrugated iron shack that called itself' the post office at the end of the world'. it was packed with cruise passengers, so we didn't send a post card or get our passports stamped- I forgot my passport!!
As we walked and followed the trail, it was easy to follow. We left the crowds behind and for the rest of the day enjoyed the solitude as did not meet anyone else on our scenic walk. We were lucky with the weather as it was fine and did not rain.
Eventually we arrived in a car park, and our Taxi driver was waiting to take us back to the port- amazing! Just one problem when we tried to pay him, his card machine did not work, so it was a quick dash to the ship to get the cash to pay him for his service.
But we still had time to get a photo of the Ushuaia sign.

It had been another great day at the end of the world.
